Pop-up parklet trial - Feedback

To support hospitality business recovery from COVID-19, and increase outdoor dining opportunities, Council has installed pop-up parklets in Bacchus Marsh and Ballan through to 30 June 2021. The trial program has been funded by State Government specific to outdoor dining activation.

The trial explores on-street dining in Moorabool Shire via the use of parklets, which are the weighted structures that sit within allocated car spaces, generally within line of sight of a hospitality venue.

We want your feedback. You can provide your feedback via the feedback form below.

Feedback closes Sunday 20 June 2021.

What is on-street dining?

Outdoor dining is one of the simplest forms of placemaking and spreads activation onto the street encouraging people to pause, sit, linger, engage and gather along the street edge, blending public space with the private realm in commercial centres.

For residents:
Outdoor dining creates more vibrant streets that are safer and more welcoming.

For traders:
Outdoor dining encourages more foot traffic and ongoing support for local businesses across all industries.

For visitors:
Outdoor dining establishes a sense of intrigue and invites people to stay and explore.

Overview

Council’s Economic Development team asked the Shire’s hospitality venues to submit expressions of interest for a pop-up parklet trial at four locations. Background information can be viewed here:

Council received three responses, and all three successfully accepted following careful assessment in line with the Shire’s program guidelines. The fourth parklet was then allocated to sit centrally within the Bacchus Marsh town centre, in front of public space, and within proximity to several hospitality outlets.

The Department of Transport (DoT) approved Council’s event permit to enable parklets on DoT managed roads. The parklets are designed and coordinated in line with safety, traffic management and accessibility guidelines.
